“ What else can i say except that this is a Chicago classic. Large portion sizes so definitely a great place to come with friends and family to share. Last time i went i had a hard time finishing my order. The look and feel of this place is like small capsule in time. The waitress was helpful in describing some of the items on the menu i had questions about since some of the terms and items are very old fashioned. ”
“ I love this spot. It's like going back in time with the retro interior. The service always friendly and efficient. Parking around this area can be difficult. No matter the season, it's always busy! I usually order the banana split. I like how you can customize with the different ice cream flavors. I've dined in and done carry out. Surprisingly, the sundae for dining out traveled quite well as we ate it in the car. ”
“ I stopped by on a cold Monday evening after 7. I got a seat right away. I went for a 3 scoop banana sundae - coconut, butter pecan and pistachio. Ice cream was good, but not as creamy as I expected. I was expectinig super premium ice cream. I also went for a chicken salad sandwich with a chicken soup. That was really good. ”
“ Review Visit: May 27th, 2015 A sweet Chicago candy shop! If you know anything about Chicago or have seen movies taken place in Chicago, you have probably seen Margie's in the background. It is quite the sight to behold when you are in Chicago as it is a timepiece from years gone by. The location I went to ended up being the original one that opened up back over 90 years ago. The inside is just a timepiece as the outside. Stepping in, I felt like I was transported back to another time. Another age. Another culture. Everything seemed old/vintage, not on purpose, but because they just haven't updated the place... and there is no reason to. While there, I grabbed a chocolate turtle and it was yummy! They seem to be an ice cream parlor more than anything as it seemed like you could sit down and enjoy your sweets in the confines of the little building. If you love sweets... if you love vintage buildings/blasts from the past... if you love iconic places... check out Margie's Candies. It's worth a visit, even if you just check the place out and not get anything. Plus they have a secondary location, so you have two chances to visit if you are ever in Chicago. ”
“ So I finally made it to the original Margie's Candies with my lovely wife on a chilly Saturday evening recently. Yes it was cold outside, but it was still a good time for a sundae! Margie's has been around for over 100 years - how about that? This busy location on Western and Armitage is not that large, so you have some awkwardly positioned tables and booths inside. The sundaes are generous in size, so you can share the sweet treat with your sweetie. The hot caramel sundae comes with a "gravy boat" of the gooey caramel topping, and it was all tasty, even the vanilla wafer. ”
“ My cousins and I love going to Margie's, there's a feeling of nostalgia right when you walk in. We've been going here for years and it doesn't matter if it's the middle or summer or a cold winter night - Margie's will always have a nice crowd inside. I typically order the strawberry or mixed fruit sundae, but I try to keep it as simple as possible. My group members like the shakes, the turtle sundae - honestly we haven't tried anything that we haven't liked. Up until recently, we didn't even know they served actual food. The service is always pretty good, we have some vets working here - props to them for dealing with with everyone coming in to satisfy their sweet tooth. Margie's is a staple for a reason - and the feeling you get when you visit just makes your heart a little full. ”
“ The wait time here was super long but it was worth the wait! Way too large and even between two people wasn't even close to finishing. Loved the old school diner vibe and how they retained a lot of the original decor! If Im back in the area i would go again! ”
“ Even though I'm a firm believer that ice cream can be enjoyed year round, milkshakes and summer are synonymous for me. Nothing like sipping on a milkshake while walking around with your friends and enjoying the short window of good weather we get in Chicago. Margie's is a classic Chicago establishment with its rich history and old school charm. The wait can drag out, especially during the summer, but trust me when I say the hot fudge is worth it. I usually find whipped cream to be too oily for my liking, but I make an exception for Margie's. ”
“ Late night ice cream trip. Margie's chocolate fudge is incredible!! The shop is small but has a lot of charm. Don't get pushed away by the line outside, as it goes quite fast. Would definitely recommend sharing as the portions are big enough. ”
